Maintenance & Assembly Platforms

Ideal combination of efficiency, low power requirement, and value.

Nook ball screws and electric linear actuators have proven performance in the sophisticated maintenance stands required for annual aircraft maintenance and aircraft assembly lines. These maintenance platforms are the workhorse of the MRO industry as they used to position very large, heavy (and cumbersome) components and work crews safely with precision positioning accuracy. Nook linear motion products are routinely used on these platforms to enhance safety, improve ergonomics, and increase productivity.

Linear motion systems are used in the manufacturing, repair and maintenance (MRO) of commercial, military, and private aircraft. They are designed to minimize the the risk of human error by accurately lifting and positioning aircraft components. While aircraft manufacturing is typically associated with large parts, assemblers also need to position light-weight and sensitive components as well.

System Features

  • Increased safety
  • Long vertical travel under heavy loads
  • Fast acceleration and de-docking time

Applications

  • Engine lifts & hoists
  • Assembly and Maintenance platforms
  • Cranes
  • Positioning & control equipment

Ground Support & Boarding

Speed, efficiency, and accuracy

Ground support equipment (GSE) can be found at virtually any airport, usually on the apron (servicing area by the terminal). This equipment is used to service the aircraft while it is on the ground (between flights). The role of this equipment generally involves ground power operations, aircraft mobility, and cargo/passenger loading operations.

Speed, efficiency, and accuracy are important in ground handling services in order to minimize the turnaround time (the time during which the aircraft remains parked at the gate).

Electro-mechanical devices can control bridge movements with ease and accuracy, without compromising safety. The equipment used to make this experience more efficient and enjoyable for passengers is just as important as the airplane itself. Passengers must securely board a variety of aircraft designs (and door heights) indoors away from the outside elements.

Applications

Nook's innovative ball screw designs are ideal for this application due to their integral safety ball nut that. In the event of a ball nut failure prevents the structure from falling in an inadvertent failure. Our ball screws provide a high efficiency, low torque solution with high repeatability and outstanding positioning accuracy.

Spacecraft and Launch Systems

launch pad is an above-ground facility from which a rocket-powered missile or space vehicle is vertically launched. It can include the central launch platform (mobile launcher platform), or the entire complex (launch complex). Equipment can include a launch mount or launch platform (supports the vehicle), service structure, and the infrastructure required to provide propellantsfluids, electrical power, communications, telemetry, payload processing, and storage facilities.

Reduce Pre-launch Preparation Times

Tactical launching applications for spacecraft demand complete reliability under all possible operating conditions. This equipment must raise multi-ton equipment into firing position smoothly, safely, and shock free.

Why are Nook ball screws ideal for these applications?

  • Reliability. The inherent screw principles designed into our screws has proven itself on several successful missions spanning several decades.
  • Efficiency. Low friction facilitates >90% allows for extremely smooth operation in remote launch sites under the most demanding conditions such as subzero frozen wastelands, blazing desert heat, or 100% jungle humidity.
  • Simplicity. Can rely on manual operation in case of power failure.

Aircraft Sub-Systems

Rapid, responsive and precise manipulation

Aircraft systems require zero failure and rapid, responsive and precise manipulation of their sub systems. They also require compact, lightweight, and highly efficient components to perform complex motions within limited spaces (in extreme environments). The reliability of these systems is extremely crucial. You can count on Nook's broad range of linear motion solutions to deliver outstanding performance every time you need it.

Advantages Include

  • Low power consumption
  • Smaller drive train components
  • Weight savings
  • Minimized wear
  • Low maintenance
  • Fail-safe operation

Applications

Nook ball screws and systems have been trusted in countless aerospace application for over 50 years. They are ideal for aircraft sub-system components due to their ability to run on any power source. In addition, they eliminate the need for extraneous hardware such as pumps, hoses, filters, piping, etc...

Flight Simulators - The ease of synchronization with a single drive motor, high repeatability, and predictable life make Nook ball screws the ideal solution for flight simulators.
